Roller Coaster of Looooooove
It’s definitely been a roller coaster day. Of love? I guess so. I fell in love with my city over and over again today. First, driving out of Downsview, I stopped for a divine falafel at Pita Paradise. Really happy to have discovered this place because I often yearn for good Middle Eastern food when going stir crazy in the suburbs. In my personal pita paradise, I munched while driving my beat-up minivan through my beloved city.
All in all, I drove through/past West Indian Oakwood, Christie Pits, Koreatown, Bloorcourt Village, the Art and Design District, Parkdale, Little Italy, Chinatown, the University of Toronto, Queen’s Park, commercial central downtown, the gay village, the Bloor viaduct, the Don Valley Parkway ravine…God, this city is so amazing. Diverse and beautiful. This is truly home.
Then home to do some “activist” work. Calling and writing CBS to get all Angry Asian Girl on their asses about the Adam Carolla fiasco. Adam Carolla, hired to replace Howard Stern, showing his true racist colours on air? They call them shock jocks, but honestly, I am not shocked. Just saddened. Do your part and write/call too. They’re not listening to us, though. Ah, the model minority thing working against Asian Americans.
Speaking of Asian Americans, I’m totally proud of our Canadian darling Sandra Oh getting more recognition for her kickass work on Grey’s Anatomy and love that she wanted to acknowledge the struggle of Asian actors in Hollywood and encourage people to keep on truckin’ (she said, “shining”) but girl should’ve shown some Canuck pride, yo! She’s from the capital region too!
The grand tour of the city preceded and followed my tour of the Legal Aid Clinic I hope to devote 8 months to in the near future. I’m still working on that application. Applications, don’t you love ’em? O_o
Then the gym for cramp-inducing cardio. High, high as a bird. Though some lady got all up in my grill about getting to close to her in class. C’mon, beeyotch, you’re taking this personal space thing to a whole new level. I don’t like people stealing my space in group fitness classes either, but when the room is bursting with people, I accept that so long as no one is touching/breathing on me, it’s all good. Jeebus.
Then home to dinner. Another massive fight with my brother. Second one in a week. The first one was so cathartic. I was shockingly honest with him and he took everything like a champ. Today’s was a bit more crazy. Screaming and tears. Mine, of course. Cathartic in a different way, I guess. There’s catharsis and there’s catharsis. 😛
Never fear, everything is resolved, I think. I almost typed, “for now” since somehow there is always something else to fight about. It’s mostly my fault since I have this knack for reacting at a profoundly twisted level. Also, I tend to find scapegoats quite readily when the going gets tough. Poor Andrew just happened to be tonight’s whipping boy as the more appropriate target wouldn’t have tolerated my defences. Sigh.
My face is still tear stained and my eyes are awfully dry. I also owe my boyfriend a phone call. It’ll be the 4th of the day, but we’re crazy like that. Granted, he called while I was in the middle of attacking my poor brother so clearly, an update is needed. Besides, he’s at the laundromat and laundry is more fun when mobile phones are involved. Okay, not really; but it’s probably less boring.
Here’s another random aside for you: today’s post is clearly brought to you by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I may have been born in the ’80s, but I’m certainly a child of the ’90s. Anyway, the title seemed appropriate because I’ve heard one of my all time favourite RHCP (and otherwise) songs on the radio several times in the past few days, Under the Bridge. I don’t know what that means. Maybe it’s the New Moon. Or my cycle. *shrug*

I’m going to take away the most inane part of this blog. Not the fighting with your brother. Not your emotional catharsis. Not how much you love your city.
I kept thinking about the fact that you love falafal as I read through this entry. Perhaps this is because I’m incredibly hungry right now. Perhaps this is because I don’t often find people who love falafal. Or maybe this is because I’m just WEIRD and a little too focused on food.

Okay i accidentally pressed enter and i lost my entire comment. damn it!
so about my hanging comment last entry. I was just going to say taht i love the sunglasses! you should wear them everyday and sleep with them to help exude all that fabulousness you keep up in your vintage minivan. lol.
and about the gym thing, i’ve heard people complain at my gym about not wanting to be NEAR sweaty people on the treadmill and the such, but isn’t that the purpose you go to the gym? to sweat it all out? people confuse the hell out of me sometimes.
and yes adam carolla is a honkey ho. and yes sandra oh is evolving into a brilliant role model!
i love the middle eastern stuff as well. especially falafels with yogurt sauce and a dash of hot sauce….mmmmm…..still 2 more hours until lunch. damn it.
